This oil painting was based on a flower I found on one of my walks.
I added the Yellow Australian Admiral butterfly to make this a more interesting painting. It’s painted in the Old Masters style of grisaille with colour washes to give good depth and transparency in the colours.
I believe that this traditional style of painting I use, brings out the Intense colours in the green levves the butterfly and the white flower beautifully.
The Old Masters style of Grisaille of a toned under-painting followed by applying many layers of Transparent Colour, finally gives a glow to the finished painting, that modern techniques cannot recreate.

My finished painting, is one of those you can look into, and see real depth, rather that two dimensional paintings, I often see on display in some galleries.
I really don't like the chalkiness some painters get by over working areas of their paintings, they finish with a muddied painting.
The technique I use, always gives nice clean colours and offers a depth of field to my finished oil paintings, that stand out from the other artists work.
